Elizabeth Tsai is a second year master's student in the Media Arts and Sciences program. Previously at MIT, she double majored in the mechanical engineering and materials science and minored in biomedical engineering and political science. As an undergrad, Liz worked in the Laboratory for Multiscale Regenerative Technologies developing a microfluidic platform to map the effects of different extracellular matrix molecules and soluble factors on tumor cell adhesion and in the Molecular Machines group on microfluidic protein synthesis. In the Mediated Matter group, she is working number of projects related to bio-inspired fabrication processes at various length scales. She is intrigued by how researchers may move beyond taking inspiration from nature to harnessing nature itself as a design medium and fabrication process. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking and working on The BETH Project – a low cost adjustable prosthetic socket for trans-tibial amputees.
