Julian Leland is a research assistant in the Mediated Matter Group and a Master's candidate in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT. He is fascinated by the concept of bringing tools to people - exploring new ways of designing and creating, while seeking to make those tools and techniques available to the widest possible audience, which he pursues in Mediated Matter through his work on the Digital Construction Platform and other group projects. Previously, he developed cable driven robotic arms, manipulators and rehabilitation systems at Barrett Technology, and researched self-scaling manufacturing systems and public policy for global development engineering as an undergraduate at Swarthmore College.
